Description
Signal Iduna Park, also known as the Westfalenstadion, is the largest football stadium in Germany, located in Dortmund. With a capacity of 81,359 spectators, it serves as the home ground of Borussia Dortmund. Built between 1971 and 1974 for the FIFA World Cup, the stadium has witnessed many historic matches, including one of the highest scoring UEFA Cup finals in 2001.
The stadium underwent significant changes and upgrades, particularly in the run-up to the 2006 World Cup. This included the installation of an electronic access system, expanded disabled seating and a revamp of the VIP section. The stadium's South Stand, known as the largest standing stand in Europe, is a key feature of the arena.
Since 1 December 2005, the stadium has been called Signal Iduna Park following an agreement with the Signal Iduna insurance group. During international matches under the auspices of UEFA and FIFA, the name BVB-Stadion is used.
