Description
Boris Paichadze Dinamo Arena is a national football stadium in Tbilisi, Georgia, where the capital's FC Dinamo trains and plays. It was designed in 1936 by Gia Kurdiani, an outstanding architect of his time, and he is the main architect of the project. At that time, its spectator capacity was 35,000 people.
But eight years later, the stadium was closed for a major renovation, which lasted until 1976. During this time, the stadium completely changed its appearance. In addition to the new stands for 78,000 seats, the arena also received a new name - V.I. Lenin Dynamo.
The arena's attendance record was set on October 3, 1979, when about 110,000 people attended the 1/8 final match of the Champions Cup against Liverpool (3:0). It was a very popular stadium during the Soviet era, a record that was repeated during the meeting between the Georgian and German national teams in 1995.
After the collapse of the USSR, the stadium was renamed "National", and in 1995 - "Boris Paichadze National Stadium" (the best football player in the history of Georgia).
During its existence, it has undergone several reconstructions. The last and largest took place in 2006. After the reconstruction, the stadium had 55,000 seats equipped with individual plastic seats.
It hosts important football matches, local competitions, as well as large concerts and events. On August 11, 2015, the UEFA Super Cup match was held here, which became the most productive in the history of this trophy.
